IN THE RAW 51: Jessica Solce II

The delightful Jessica Solce joins me again to talk about her new film, Forging a Country

I had the great pleasure of talking again with the lovely Jessica Solce about her new film, Forging a Country. Forging a Country covers the re-election of El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, a man the American right has been paying very close attention to.

Jessica and I talk about Bukele’s transformation of El Salvador in depth for 45 minutes, covering everything from the thoughts and feelings of ordinary Salvadoreans to the various different Western reactions to the Bukele miracle.

Below is a trailer for the film, which you can watch via Jessica’s website. This is a very different film from Jessica’s previous film, Death Athletic, about Cody Wilson and Defense Distributed, but it bears all the hallmarks of a Solce production, not least of all her honesty and commitment to giving the characters of her story the chance to speak on their own terms.

I have to post this comment here 'cause I don't and won't ever have a Xitter account. I happened on your "country mile" Xitter post on Google, with the Donald having a run carrying a couple of kittens. You weren't by any chance mocking the possibility of a future Haitian Summer Olympics being held in Ohio?

Bukele will have a simple solution, whenever in the future he begins to face serious opposition over "human rights abuses" imprisoning criminal gang members during El Salvador's state of emergency. He'll just empty the prisons, and throw the inmates out of the country to have them travel up through Mexico over the southern border into the U.S.
