I had the great pleasure of talking again with the lovely Jessica Solce about her new film, Forging a Country. Forging a Country covers the re-election of El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, a man the American right has been paying very close attention to.
Jessica and I talk about Bukele’s transformation of El Salvador in depth for 45 minutes, covering everything from the thoughts and feelings of ordinary Salvadoreans to the various different Western reactions to the Bukele miracle.

This is a very different film from Jessica’s previous film, Death Athletic, about Cody Wilson and Defense Distributed, but it bears all the hallmarks of a Solce production, not least of all her honesty and commitment to giving the characters of her story the chance to speak on their own terms.
